Pirates Of Portland
Growing up along the southwest coast of England and reading folk tales and histories involving pirates inspired me to create this piece. Portland, UK, was once known for pirates and smugglers, as well as the famous story of the “Roy Dog,” said to lure people to their deaths.
The print is created using both white and blue Cranfield inks, beginning with a deep blue that gradually fades into a lighter tone. I wanted to achieve the effect of misty waters and felt this was the best way to accomplish it.
Printed on handmade, sustainable Lokta paper, the print measures approximately 47 cm x 33 cm. Please note that variations in light and dark areas, as well as occasional additional ink, are part of the printmaking process and contribute to the unique character of each piece.
